Making Love Work

FINALLY! I feel like thinking and writing again. This flu epidemic is bad. Prayers and empathy flow from my heart to all those struggling with this illness.

I have to give some well-deserved accolades to our Senior Leadership Team. Last weekend I didn’t surrender the task of bringing God’s Word to our congregation until Saturday morning. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to have a team who can step up and do much more than just “fill in!” We are blessed to have such a dynamic group of young people who are “On Fire” for Jesus. I can’t wait to get to work each day just to be around them.

This week we are continuing our Series called “Navigate Love.” Romantic LOVE is one of the most complex out of all the many variations of love. God has designed a sophisticated system in each human being to help us find our “Soul Mate.” The early experience we have with Romantic Love is very exciting. It changes so many things. I can remember my first “crush” in the eighth grade. For the first time in my life I had no appetite, wanted to take a bath (I actually washed behind my ears) and strangely enjoyed listening to Barry Manilow.

Our society faces some severe problems because we have misunderstood this early, exciting part of Romantic LOVE. Instead of using this internal “tracking system” to build a true relationship with someone of the opposite gender from us, our culture pressures people into taking it to the sexual level. This pressure is manifested in young people today who are 9 and 10 years old. All I thought about at 9 and 10 was playing sports, eating, fishing, etc.

We are focusing our attention this month on God’s Positioning System that helps us “Navigate” our significant relationships. God has the answers for our dilemma if we will apply what He says! Our lives would be more fulfilling, our schools would be less dangerous, and our homes would be more intact if we would examine the coordinates God gives for our Love Relationships.

Years ago the Beatles had a popular song that basically proclaimed one message: “All you need is LOVE.” LOVE is certainly a very powerful and exciting force in our lives. The Standards being practiced today are proving to be detrimental at every level of society. We can turn the tide if those who truly want to Follow Christ will set the example and live according to God’s Positioning Standards! CDs and DVDs are available for all the messages.
