Continually Amazed by God

I was spending some time in Bible study Wednesday morning when God spoke to me in a powerful way. He brought something to my mind that I can’t wait to share this Sunday in our Main Event. Trust me, it is a life-changing truth! There I was just studying on the topic of how we handle God’s resources and BAM, God hit me right between the eyes with this truth. I mean, it almost made me need to get my blood pressure checked. What is it, you may ask? How could a study in biblical Generosity reveal such incredible life-changing truth that I can’t wait to share with you? I know, those are some of my questions too! God has a way of surprising us with unexpected ‘jewels’ from His Word when we least expect it.

We are entering our 2nd week in this series on Generosity. Trust me folks, we are going to experience some incredible God-moments in these coming weeks. When God called a man named Abram (later became Abraham) he basically said: “I will bless you — you be a blessing to the nations!” The principle is hard to miss. God blesses us with what we need to live on and then, whatever we receive above our “needs” should be used to bless others.

In America, surveys tell us that the average person gives just over 1% of their income to charities. While I am sure there are millions given away each year that no one records, it is a startling fact to consider when compared to the vast wealth in our nation. We have been conditioned by our world to “Upgrade” every time we get an “Increase” in pay. Sometimes we even fall into the trap of determining our purchases by our ability to make the monthly payment. Some people don’t even know what they paid for their automobiles — they just know what the payment is!

CAUTION: Don’t make the mistake of thinking that materialism/money issues are confined to this world! Friends, the Bible clearly teaches us that we will one day stand before God and “settle accounts” concerning how we “Managed” (Stewardship) His property. Our eternal positions will be determined by what we do while we are here on earth. (Don’t take my word for it, look up Matthew 25:14-30)

God is teaching me so many New things and reminding me of things I have learned in the past as I prepare for these messages on Generosity. God really is the epitome of Generosity! (James 1:17) I am excited about the opportunity to share these things with you on Sunday! If you can’t be there, don’t forget that you can watch the services on our website: www.washingtonavenue.org or, if you are at a computer, you can watch the services live at 10:30AM (EST).
