Continuing to Think
Recently I wrote a post called “Restrictor Plates” to illustrate how easy it is – even for Christians – to hinder the growth of God’s Kingdom. I have read other blogs by some fellow Pastors who are also cautioning those of us within the family of God to be very careful about saying anything negative about our brothers and sisters in Christ.
As I was listening to the latest update on a teenager who shot and killed his family in Easley, SC this past weekend, it occurred to me how desperately our world needs to see unity and mutual love among those who know Jesus Christ. Being a devoted Christ-Follower will not insulate us from tragedies and trauma but it will certainly give us the strength and courage to face these times of great distress. When we struggle with the mystery of how a young man could do something so horrific, our Christian worldview reveals how ruthless and wicked our enemy can be. There is no way to make any rational sense out of something so senseless!
In these days of increasing manifestations of wickedness (I just heard on the news that police arrested a young man who said he wanted to die and go to heaven so he could kill Jesus) don’t you think that it is more important for Christians to focus on what unites us instead of our differences? It is no mystery how anyone could have such a warped view of reality to think they could kill Jesus. Fellow Believers, we are right in the thick of some serious spiritual warfare and its time to make sure we have our armor on (cf. Ephesians 6:12 and following). Let’s be ready, like the Apostle Paul, to “fight the good fight” (2 Timothy 4:7) and not fight with each other! WE NEED A DEMONSTRATION OF SOLIDARITY WITHIN THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST.

Any post that uses the term “solidarity” is a huge hit in my book!
