Got Questions?
Recently many of my thoughts have been drawn to the issue of “Relevance.” I am actually preparing a message right now for the One Prayer Series we are participating in this June titled: “Make Us Relevant.” In my research, I have discovered that there are many people in our culture who would be classified as “Unchurched” or “dechurched” who actually have a genuine respect and admiration for Jesus. It’s not Jesus they oppose but the way the church has failed to personify who Jesus really is.
In trying to work through some of these new revelations, it occurs to me that there are vast numbers of people who have no desire to be a part of an organized church but who are very interested in knowing more about Jesus. This led me to think that one of the most “RELEVANT” ministries the church could offer today is helping people answer their tough questions about God without any “strings attached.” In other words, while we do not apologize for trying to Connect people first to Jesus then to a church family, if we could help people get closer to knowing God without any ambition of getting them on our member’s list, maybe they would be more likely to lower their defense systems and see how Jesus can make all the difference in their lives.
So, we are going to do a series in August simply called “Got Questions?” and I need your help. We want to hear what questions people in our culture are asking (or are not asking) about God. You can go to this site to submit your questions. They will be emailed directly to me and I will be deciding which questions to answer on the five Sundays in August. If you are a Christ Follower who reguarly attends gatherings with other believers (OK, someone who goes to church), please submit questions you have about knowing God or questions you get from those who are not a part of a church family.
Thanks for your assistance!
