Things I’m Thankful For…
Do you ever have times when you just sit down, take a “Pause” from hectic-ville and just marvel in how good God is? I was thinking today about how lucky I am. I don’t say a whole lot about my self and my family on this blog but, believe me when I tell you, I am one of the luckiest men on the face of the earth. In about 17 days I will have been married to my wife for 27 years! She is one special lady. She has put up with a lot in our married life, including some tough times in ministry. Through it all she has stood strong and kept her faith. She is stronger than me in many ways. I can’t imagine my life without her.
I am also blessed to have THE TWO greatest children who ever breathed air! My son Matthew is 22. He lives at home with us and, while I kid him a lot about moving out, Lisa and I are tickled to death that he still likes to be around us (especially in the kitchen). That boy loves to eat. Ashley is 15 (but looks a bit older) and recently got her drivers license (yikes!). Actually she is a very good driver. She loves to ride horses and sings in the praise band “Resident Aliens.” We are blessed to have a close knit, loving family. Without them ministry and life would mean little to me!!!
Here are some other things I am grateful for:
- JESUS! (He’s First!)
- My awesome staff! I have the privilege of serving with the greatest team I’ve ever known in ministry.
- Our fantastic church family. People here are so loving and kind to me and our leadership team.
- Good friends. God has blessed my life with some special friends. After officiating at a wedding this past Saturday for a life-long friend, it reminded me how blessed my life has been.
- Fishing, hunting, cool breezes on a hot day, and MY RECLINER! (sits right under a ceiling fan)
Maybe you should take some time to just sit, be quiet and thank God for the awesome ways He has blessed you. Trust me, when you take time to think about the blessings, you spend a lot less time focusing on the ‘bad’ things in your life. I think there’s an old song about that (“Count your many blessings and see what God has done.”)
Thank you God! It seems so simple to say but is actually the formula for entering God’s presence. Are you thankful today? He knows our heart and waits patiently for us to come and talk with Him. I realized recently that God is Obsessed with us! Isn’t that a cool thought? Now that’s something to be thankful for!
