The Journey 2008 has officially begun! Let me tell you, God didn’t wait for the Middle of the Week to start stirring the hearts of this group. Students and Adults were captured by the GRACE and MAJESTY of our Jesus last night in the opening worship gathering! I know God has been working in all our hearts getting us ready for some God-Sized assignments that He will reveal this week.

I have been privileged to participate in Student ministry events for over 20 years now. I have seen students mesmerized in the moment of emotions (not that God wasn’t speaking to them). But there was something different last night. It was not the mood of the music and it certainly was not the communicator (that was me), IT WAS ALL GOD!!! Some faithful students stepped up last night and said I want to be fully surrendered to God’s plan for my life (we called that “Get In Your Groove”). We saw a student stand before his peers and confess that the real problem in his life was that he took his eyes off God. Fairly new believers admitted they had let God slip from first place in their lives and they were not as excited about him as they once were. Some stepped forward and asked for prayer so they could help their friends become Christians.

IT WAS FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pray for the group today. They will be using their God-Given skills and renewed passion for Jesus to show some LOVE to kids in a housing development. I think these Students get more of a charge out of working with these kids than the other incredible stuff this staff has planned for them.

Once again I find myself wondering if an old man like me can make any difference in the lives of Students whom I am becoming old enough to be their Grandpa. (Wait a minute, did I just say that?) Oh, who cares? I am old and proud to be where I am in this season of life. I read this morning in a little booklet called Experiencing God and my Lord reminded me that, in any season of life, only what is done in his power produces Eternal Fruit. The key to effectiveness is surrender. So, I say publicly what I’ve already said privately this morning, God, I surrender ALL I have to God’s Plan for ME!
